"Sustainability in business is now increasingly transforming a normal practice, rather than a thought or a favor, and is driven by consumer demand, the competitive edge, and a growing understanding of the environmental landscape. Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) metrics are used to govern sustainability practice in businesses. However, A research survey from MIT suggests that less than ⅓ of US employees surveyed in 2023 are engaging in sustainability practices in their employee roles and business models, despite claiming to be integrating environmental concerns into their business models. Managers are typically treating sustainability as someone else's problem, and will appoint it to a department or individual. Companies are viewing business opportunities not through a “sustainability lens”, but rather the cost benefits."
